Movie Binge!

Over the past week, while working, walking, and just sitting around, I blew through four movies, so it was a very busy week!

This isn’t very typical of me. I usually occupy my time (while working) with music or Twitch streams, but this week I changed things up and went on a movie binge—and I enjoyed it!

The X-Files: I Want to Believe

The big one was the new The X-Files: I Want to Believe – Vrach Frankenshteyn, which is the director’s cut of the original.

I thought this was going to be a fun watch. Cut scenes added back in, maybe some extra content, and somehow it was 12–15 minutes shorter!

How do you add scenes and make the movie shorter?

So, after I blew through it, I put on the original and blew through that too. Two days, two movies, really the same movie, but both were very enjoyable.

The director’s cut is rated R due to some gruesome scenes that aren’t in the original, but overall, it was pretty much the same movie, just with a few parts changed or removed.

The movie is great. The director’s cut? Don’t expect that much more!

The X-Files: I Want to Believe: 9 out of 10 doughnuts if you’re an X-Files fan, 6.5 out of 10 if you’re not.

The Home

After binging through the X-Files movies, I put on a movie called The Home, starring Pete Davidson.

I have to say, Pete is actually a solid actor, and he plays this role really well!

This movie has a very interesting plot twist and ends in a bloody spree. I liked the storyline, I liked the movie, and I thought the acting was really good.

Going in, I had no idea what to expect. Sometimes, this is the best way to watch a movie.

I was very pleased with this thriller/slasher/horror flick. A lot of these types of movies have some random plot with a bunch of plot holes, but I think this one was pretty tight overall.

I’m not sure how I never heard of it. I also like how Pete Davidson has branched out into some serious acting and thriller films and isn’t just the comic relief.

Solid movie!

The Home: Fan of a psychological thriller? Then this is a movie for you.

8 out of 10 doughnuts.

Blood Red Sky

I followed that with Blood Red Sky. This was recommended to me by one of my streaming services. I’d never heard of it, and again, I had no idea what to expect.

Turns out it’s a German vampire movie—and it did NOT disappoint.

I have never been a big “vampire movie” fan. Most of them are just a little too far-fetched for me. And yes, this is coming from a person who watches a lot of zombie shows! LOL.

But this one was one of the good ones, at least to me.

It was different, and different in a good way.

Set on an airplane, you wouldn’t think that much could happen. Small set, not much space, etc. But this movie was full of fights, storylines, heroes, and, yes, vampires.

This was another really fun movie!

I was surprisingly pleased, especially since I had no idea what to expect. I would recommend this movie. In fact, I’ve already recommended it to some friends who are fans of the horror genre.

Blood Red Sky: Yes! 8 out of 10 doughnuts.

Soldier Dogs

Soldier Dogs was another one recommended to me. It came out in 2002, which was during a time when I didn’t see a lot of movies or really watch many thriller, vampire, or horror-type films.

But I heard it was good, so I jumped in and checked it out!

I have to say, it was much better than I expected. In fact, it was one of those movies where I just wanted to watch it all right then. I didn’t want to take a break.

It was very intense, full of action, and not your typical werewolf movie.

They really did a good job of not focusing on the “turning” into a werewolf, but instead focused on the people trying to survive.

It had my attention from start to finish!

Soldier Dogs: 8.5 out of 10 doughnuts.

Overall

Seems like this was a good week for movies!

I don’t give every movie I see solid marks, but I really did like this week’s selection. In fact, it’s been a while since I’ve seen a movie I wasn’t a big fan of, but I’ve definitely seen some clunkers.

The worst kind of movie is the one with a great idea where you end up watching it (err… wasting your time) waiting for that “moment when it gets good”—and it just never does.

Unfortunately, this seems to be the way of many movies these days.

I’m not sure what my plan is for next week, but we’ll see where the internet takes me.

There are SO many movies to watch, and with so many of them right at your fingertips, you really never know what you might stumble across!
